After the earthquake, the State Council Earthquake Relief Headquarters Office and Emergency Management Department immediately launched the national earthquake emergency level III response, National Disaster Reduction Committee and Emergency Management Department launched the national level IV emergency response, and Wang Xiangxi, deputy commander of the State Council Earthquake Relief Headquarters and Minister of Emergency Management Department, continued to dispatch and deploy earthquake relief work in the Ministry Command Center. In order to fully support Sichuan’s earthquake relief, the Ministry of Finance and the Emergency Management Department urgently pre-allocated 50 million yuan of central natural disaster relief funds in Sichuan Province on the same day to make overall plans for emergency rescue and relief for the affected people, focusing on emergency treatment such as search and rescue, relocation and resettlement of the affected people, danger elimination, investigation and emergency rectification of hidden dangers of secondary disasters, and repair of damaged houses. The Emergency Management Department, together with the State Grain and Material Reserve Bureau, allocated 3,000 tents, 10,000 quilts and 10,000 folding beds and other central relief materials to Luding County, Sichuan Province on the same day, supporting local governments to do a good job in earthquake relief and resettlement of affected people.
By 16: 00 on the 5th, the Emergency Management Department had dispatched more than 1,100 national comprehensive fire rescue teams, 50 safety production emergency rescue teams, 98 natural disaster engineering rescue centers (China Anneng), 31 sets of equipment and 1 rescue helicopter to the earthquake site to carry out earthquake relief work. At the same time, the Emergency Management Department deployed more than 3,600 fire rescue teams in Chongqing, Gansu, Guizhou, Yunnan, Qinghai and the China Earthquake Rescue Team, and more than 70 search and rescue dogs assembled for standby, ready for cross-regional reinforcements at any time.
